Served as Chair of the Histadrut 'Parliament'. Active in social, political and security affairs After the Six-day war, initiated the establishment of Siah (New Israeli Left) which rejected Soviet doctrine and strove for social justice and peace.
Was a leader of the Sheli movement and in 1984 joined up with Shulamit Aloni of Ratz (the movement for civil rights and peace) and was elected to the Knesset. Was chair of the Knesset state comptroller committee, member of the foreign affairs and security committee and chaired the sub-committee for the secret services. Initiated tens of laws, the most prominent of which were the law for public housing, and the minimum wage law.
