  The Diaspora and Israel

A Jewish renaissance in the Diaspora and the realization of the Zionist ideal are dependent on the ability of the State of Israel to act as a rallying point for world Jewry. What are the conditions in which the state of Israel can constitute such a focus?

a. A state regarding the prophetic precept of social justice as a central component of the Jewish heritage.This demands narrowing the dangerous social, economic and educational gaps in Israeli society, guaranteeing complete equality for Arab citizens and assuring equal opportunities for all citizens in all aspects of life;

b. A state striving for peace with all its neighbors while assuring the security of its citizens;

c. A state recognizing the right to self-determination and independent statehood for the Palestinian people alongside the state of Israel, and doing all in its power to end the occupation of Palestinian territories, according to the dictum that 'a people ruling another people cannot itself be free';

d. A pluralistic and progressive state fostering diverse expressions of Jewish culture, in which different religious streams exist along with the central stream of liberal-secular Judaism.

Only a strong Israeli society in the above image can attract all those Diaspora Jews who cherish it, wish to contribute to its development, and aspire to belong to it.
