The aims of Meretz groups in the Diaspora

The aims of Meretz groups in the Diaspora Meretz strives to strengthen the sense of Jewish peoplehood and of belonging to the Jewish people, particularly among the younger generation. Recognizing the centrality of Israel to Jewish existence, it strives to promote Jewish commitment to Israel. At the same time, it supports the strengthening of Jewish community life in the Diaspora, with emphasis on Jewish and Hebrew education, and in particular on humanistic Zionist-oriented education. Against this background, Meretz activities will include the following:
  • Activity in the local Zionist movement, in all spheres
  • Study of our Jewish culture and heritage and of the Hebrew language
  • Activity in formal and informal Jewish educational frameworks, particularly for the younger generation
  • Expressing active solidarity with the Jewish people wherever Jews are suffering from oppression, discrimination or anti-Semitism
  • Identifying with like-minded political forces in different countries in struggles against racism, for world peace, etc.
  • Supporting the Israeli peace camp in the struggle for a just solution to the Jewish-Arab conflict
  • Strengthening the left and progressive wing in Zionism, as represented by Meretz, in Jewish communities the world over
  • Promoting the kibbutz movement and Hashomer Hatzair
  • Expressing solidarity with the state of Israel in general and its progressive forces in particular, in every possible manner: Aliya, visits, public and financial support, information work, demonstrations, etc.
  • Presenting Hagshama (realization) as one of the most significant challenges to the Jewish individual and community.
